I recently received a relatively substantial bonus (compared to previous years), and honestly it caught me a bit off guard. My boss mentioned it was because she appreciates the team, which I’m really grateful for.
This is my first time receiving a lump sum like this, so I want to be smart about it — but at the same time, part of me feels like I should enjoy some of it too.
For those of you who’ve been in a similar situation before, how did you approach it?
Did you mostly save/invest it, or set aside a portion to spend? Did you think about things like maximising tax relief?
Also curious if there’s anything you regret doing (or not doing) with your first big bonus.
Just trying to learn and get some perspective from people who’ve gone through this before.
