Hi MalaysianPF, I’m in need of advice on whether I should stay in this job beyond the probation period.
I started this job about 6 months ago, the probation period is ending next week and I’ll hear about whether I’m being confirmed or not. Currently my notice period is 1 week but will be increased to 2 months if I’m confirmed.
The good things about the job: The work is very routine- just follow the process over and over again. I use way less brain power compared to my old job in marketing/advertising. It’s good enough to keep me occupied throughout the work day. There’s no micromanaging, and I basically know how to perform my role.
The bad things: My colleagues really love to take their mcs. In the 6 months I worked there, they basically take 3-4 days mc/annual leave a month. This isn’t a problem normally except that their job usually ends up with me for those days as it’s time sensitive. So I have to put my own work on the backburner until they come back. Some days I have to OT in order to cover back my deadlines. I’m not expecting this to change as they’ve said they were burned out working in their roles (they are senior staffs who have worked in the company for 7-10 years) which is why they maximise their “leaves”. And the boss seem ok with it as they still get yearly bonuses etc.
Extra notes: The job basically needs me to be on standby 24/7. I need to answer the phone even on Sundays. There is no compensation and it was not communicated in the interview nor is it in the offer/employment letter. Also, it’s a 6 day work week job. Salary is just okay, RM2.5K, I used to earn higher (RM4K+) in marketing/advertising but the reason why I took the paycut is because I kept burning out in marketing/advertising roles.
I’m worried when I’m confirmed my colleagues will be even more absent. Workdays become tiring when they take off.
