I am a fresh graduate, 23M, working my first full time job at a small consulting firm with a prior internship at a tech consultancy. I am 3 weeks into my probation of 3 months and I don’t feel like I really belong here.
My coworkers are Chinese speaking whereas I am a banana, so I don’t mix well with them (or rather it feels like they choose to avoid me). Don’t get me wrong, they’re nice people but somehow I feel isolated? Working arrangements are 5 days WFO and OT daily is a must (Working hours are 9-6, but I am expected to work until 8-9pm at times), with some cases I have had to come in on weekends to help with deployment.
I don’t get paid OT as my base salary is RM 4,000 but it definitely is taking a toll on my mental health as I feel like I have lost a-lot of my life in these 3 weeks. I don’t foresee myself continuing in this company, and have been applying for jobs in the mean time that will better suit my skill sets (As a Business Analyst).
Is it okay for me to resign during my probation? The notice period is 1 month which i’ve heard is a red flag for probations. The hiring was rushed within 3 days and I had to visit the office to sign the letter, so it definitely feels like I fell into their trap. Not only that, but the workload is heavy, yet the laptop they have provided is barely functioning as it requires it to be charged at all times.
I get reprimanded when my work is delayed due to insufficient accounts to access the work files as other full time employees are currently using it and honestly leaves very little room for me to be productive.
Moreover, since the first week of work, I’ve been tasked to manage all the presentations to the client (most likely due to my English skills as opposed to my co-workers) for a major project currently being rushed by July.
In some way I feel responsible to the success of the project, but I really don’t think this job is the right fit for me. How do I go about this? I haven’t gotten a job offer from another company yet and I don’t know how to proceed if I were to get an interview with another company whilst i’m still working here.
