How will Australian gambling operators be affected by the government's response to the Murphy report?

Howard Coombe … (detailed discussion follows)

I think gambling operators will feel more pressure, especially around advertising and promotions. Even if the rules are not as strict as some critics wanted, companies will still need to be more careful about how they attract new players. For large brands, it may mainly mean more compliance work, but for smaller operators, these changes could become more expensive.

Gambling has a highly effective if not fraudulent lobby, much of this for the self-interest of middle-east individuals with considerable financial and political power. They are invariably among the high-end of society who bankrolls the politicians into their assumed’ power of government. No one however has the ‘often perceived’ power of the American financial Empire even if in actuality, it is many hundreds of trillions in deficit through their warmongering.

It is a tragic example of why the Labor Government voted into power only one year ago is turning into a dismal failure. Gambling ads are annoying to most people but gambling addition is a huge problem for the small percentage of people who cannot cope with it. However while they are gambling away their lives and that of their families various related organisations including government s are raking in profits.

So what does the Labor Government do? It decides to think about the problem having regard to those who would lose gambling income. Has anybody heard of what happens when you try to please

What does a government do? Gambling revenue is a significant source of taxable income for governments. If this source of revenue was cut/reduced, other forms of revenue from rates to traffic and parking fines would have to increase. As the government (federal) will not increase the GST and broaden it so it covers everything, revenue must be earned from other sources. Therefore all governments are treading very gently. Sadly gamblers often are not able to make sensible decisions to curb their gambling. Perhaps a hard decision needs be made preventing problem gamblers even entering gambling venu

Are they? Wish them good luck. The fact is that it is not only the ads, but even the news including the news websites are full of news about who won how much and who won how many times and what he said about his strategy in choosing the numbers.

No government wants to combat gambling addiction. It’s a win for the government to let you gamble away your money. The more YOU gamble, the more YOU pay taxes and the more GOVERNMENT get from you. Then if you win big, guess what, you pay tax on your winnings. What you can’t do though is claim a tax loss on your gambling debt, well at least not here in Australia. And then on the other side, if the government tried to stop people from gambling, the public would be in uproar claiming the government have no right dictating what they can spend their money on, it’s a breach of their freedoms, blah,

Gambling, particularly non-regulated illegal gambling, is open to corruption, which then finds its way into interfering with the performance of unsuspecting and/or naive athletes.

When one site is shut down or blocked, another opens, so it becomes incredibly difficult to police. And there will always be punters who prefer an illegal operator to a licensed one (goodness knows why - it’s certainly not safer for your money), and those punters don’t care. They want to bet, and it doesn’t really matter what they’re betting on. If a player/team/sport becomes

The labor party are out of there minds. They are gone pretty soon.

Here in Michigan in the U.S., we’re bombarded by ads on TV for online gambling, which is now legal here.

An interesting thing is: ALL of these commercials have the disclaimer ‘

They are required to post these with their ads. All you need is a credit card and access to an online gambling site, and lose your soul gambling away every penny you’ll earn. But that’s ok, ‘WE HAVE THAT DISCLAIMER POSTED’ that nobody bothers to read.

I do not know about gambling in Australia, but: My opinion is: The day they allowed online gambling in the
