Hi folks, this is going to be a ridiculous question to some, but here goes.
If invested in CSPX (an accumulating ETF) via a traditional brokerage in Malaysia, what are the Malaysian tax implications? My understanding is if any dividend income on foreign shares is received in malaysia, it is taxable.
(1) I know CSPX doesn’t actually pay out dividends (it just accumulates dividends paid by the shares in the ETF), but isn’t this dividend income anyway?
(2) How to know whether the regular dividend income is not received in Malaysia, given the investor is using a Malaysian brokerage?
(3) If the CSPX investment is later sold off and funds remitted back to Malaysia, does that mean dividend income is received in Malaysia?
Thanks very much for your advice!
